Intrigued by your assessment. Much of it rings true--the prepared food aisles at the grocery stores, for instance. I avoid them like the plague. We have a wealth of grocery store chains (Safeway/Albertgsons; King Soopers; Whole Foods (which isn't as expensive as it used to be); Natural Grocers; Trader Joes; Sprouts) in Denver and DOZENS of ethnic markets (probably over 50 just on Leetsdale/Parker near where I live) with fabulous, cheap produce AND Halal meat that's a fraction of the big store price. I found food in Europe to be more expensive.

Now that Colorado has become true blue--blazing azure/cobalt blue--people are by and large pretty community minded in the broadest sense. And we're a prosperous and one of the most educated states: make sure you check US out next visit (we have 3 spare bedrooms)...maybe we can even arrange a book party at the Tattered Cover?

Trump and Co. are such clowns, I expect them to collapse any day from their bloated stupidity. Their pit-bull bark is much worse than their Pomeranian bite.

No question, this is a dark time in the US. The anger, the anxiety, the economic downturn -all of it factors into our lives. Still, as you point out, there are advantages to living here. I’m glad you and Jasiel have found such a beautiful life in the Algarve and hope you can experience the best of both worlds. ❤️

We have to keep the faith in what the American experiment can be, and fight for it.

But then, there’s the aggressive tailgating on the back roads of Portugal.
